Everyone wanna follow xeon zolt
well it's little convenient to follow someone and see their updates in a feed rather than going to their profiles in hope to find new posts.
so I starting making the follow feature only to find loop holes in my original plans.
so the idea was anyone can follow you but you can't see who, just the count and that's also only visible to you. well this fixes the problem of people who wanna follow xeon's updates.
But for xeon what does it mean? probabbly nothing other than the Followers only posts are meaningless now. so the folowwer only posts are visible to a group of people that xeon has no control on. can't see who, can't control who can. adding moderation force me to show the followers list which breaks the original idea.
you may say keep follow as original and introduce something like connections or close friends. well that sounds cool but need to evaluated more. i am thinking of something like circles or groups where xeon decides who can see his post. you can't beg xeon to add you if you don't know there is something to be added to. more precise privacy control, better compatible for federation, Xeon can keep public blogs. private updates and memes for close friends without bothering with toggles like public/private profiles.
sounds cool gives better privacy but still not mature enough, there are many ways that could expose how many circles and who are in them. if I was Xeon, and i had a circle lets say 'after-work-party' and 'after-after-work-party' i don't want people of circle a to know about existence of circle B, and it's participants. it's get more complicated when how to prevent people accidently exposing these groups . or lets say a post belong to , multiple circles A & B. when people from circle B comments, can people from circle A determines the existence or circle b and it's participants? well all of these things need to be though upon till then lets add follow feature as original. removing the followers only option as that means nothing.
